Contemporary realism finds a powerful artistic voice in the works of John Hunt. Growing up in rural Nevada, Hunt knew by the age of five that he would be an artist. After serving in Vietnam as Navy illustrator-draftsman, Hunt attended the Hollywood Art Center School in Los Angeles, where he learned the discipline and technique that have brought his paintings international acclaim. Hunt's realistic portraits in oil take the viewer far beyond the superficial into the realms of Character with a capital C. Painting primarily the fascinating people he knows personally, Hunt sees the souls of his subjects, and is able to convey that depth of vision in his astonishingly alive depictions. His portraits are homages to mountain men, cowboys, artisans at work, and Native Americans, all rendered with respect, honor, and phenomenal technical virtuosity.
Other works are shown at the following galleries: Paradigm Fine Art in Taos, and Nussbaumer Fine Art Gallery in Santa Fe.
John Hunt is currently living in Florence, Italy.
